How to Safely Share Pictures on the Internet

Thursday, April 3, 2008

I have been taking digital pictures of my students and safely sharing them with parents on the Internet since 1998. There are many photosharing websites that all do roughly the same thing. All of them are no charge to you. These photo sharing sites allow the parents in your room to view and order the pictures you take in class.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Digital Camera

Step 1:
Take some digital pictures.

Step 2:
Upload them and be sure you know where they are on your computer. You will need to be able to find the files in order to upload them to the photo sharing website.

Step 3:
Go to a photo sharing site and create your free account and "collection". A "collection" is basically your very own photo website. You can name it anything you want and it will have a .shutterfly.com at the end. For example, "www.mrsbrownsclass.shutterfly.com"

Step 4:
Upload your pictures to a photo sharing site by following the simple instructions.

Step 5:
Send out an email announcing the name of your site and the password and upload the pictures throughout the year.

Shutterfly’s features for sharing aren’t all that great- they do have good quality prints though. For better sharing, try something like Pixamo in which tags are utilized and privacy is strong.
