Canon PowerShot S95 Digital Camera

Saturday, October 30, 2010

I am one of those who do not believe that one must have a DSLR in order to be able to take good pictures. A compact digital camera that can easily fit in my pocket is good enough for me. It is not because I can't afford to buy a DSLR, it is just that I'd rather buy a very powerful laptop than buy a DSLR (I don't make my living out of photography, I am not a photographer; I make my living out of the internet). But I like taking pictures, capturing moments, that is why I like digital cameras. There's one baby that I would like to buy, it's the Canon PowerShot S95 digital camera. Here are the reasons why I want this camera:

10.0 Megapixel sensor combined with the DIGIC 4 Image Processor create Canon's HS SYSTEM for improved low light performance and better image quality.

Shoot beautiful 720p HD video in stereo sound and play back on an HDTV via the HDMI output.

A bright f/2.0 lens, great for shooting portrait photography in low light conditions or using a shallow depth-of-field for great images with beautiful soft backgrounds.

A control ring for intuitive manual control, built for the way the serious photographer has always accessed exposure control.

Full range of shooting and recording modes including RAW + JPEG for the ultimate creative control.

A 3.8x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, plus a 28mm Wide-Angle Lens gets you close to your subjects as well as capture more in your frame.

Utilizes Canon's Hybrid IS to compensate for angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting.

If the above doesn't convince you, here's a video from DigitalRev.com that speaks tons about the Canon PowerShot S95 digital camera.

HP Pavilion DV7-1240US Notebook

Friday, October 29, 2010

Not all laptops are created equal. Some laptops are made for people who work while on the move while other laptops are designed for people who see laptops as a gadget that allows them to have entertainment anywhere, anytime. The HP Pavilion is a series of laptops and notebooks designed especially for people who use laptops as their main source of canned entertainment. Take a look at the HP Pavilion DV7-1240US Notebook, if you are always on the go and could not leave your favorite music and videos behind, this lappy is the one for you. With 2.1 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 dual-core processor and 4 GB RAM, it has enough power to make your music and video come to life with you where ever you go. And check out the widescreen 17-inch LCD display, which is given life by ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (up to 1918 MB total). You can also store a lot of videos and music in its 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive.

HP Pavilion DV7-1240US Notebook

The HP Pavilion DV7-1240US Notebook also comes equipped with multiformat DVD/CD drive that is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs. Of course it has LightScribe DVD±RW drive which allows you to laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on your CDs and DVDs.

HP Pavilion DV7-1240US has a 101-key keyboard (with integrated numeric keypad) and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).

Here are more features:

4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (with 1 eSATA + USB 2.0 combo port)
1 HDMI output (for connecting to a compatible HDTV or home theater receiver for uncompressed digital audio and video via a single cable)
Analog video output: 1 VGA
1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
2 headphone jacks
1 microphone jack
1 Expansion Port 3 connector (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock)
1 IR receiver
5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card)
10/100 Fast Ethernet networking
56K modem (V.90)

Of course, not nothing is perfect, the HP Pavilion DV7-1240US notebook comes with Windows Vista Home Premium (with SP1). And the saddest thing about this netbook is that the battery life is just 2to 3 hours, depending on the usage.

Crush the Castle 2

Saturday, June 19, 2010

My five-year-old son enjoys playing Crush the Castle, now he'll be happy to know that Armor Games has released Crush the Castle 2, a newer and more exciting version of the game. There are more projectiles to choose from now, more kinds of castles to be crushed, plus a storyline that would surely add to the games attractiveness. Here is the description of the game from Armor Games:

Even after crushing and capturing Arcturia, the Redvonian King was still longing for more castles to crush. Rumor has it that King Blutias has built sturdier castles in his cluster of islands known as Crushtania the Redvonian King wants them crushed. The King has sent you, his Seige Master, and Halgrim his finest mason, to assemble the greatest minds in the land to destroy Blutias's empire.

Google Dumps Windows

Google is dumping Windows operating system for security reasons. Google started phasing out the use of Windows in its offices in January. This move came after an attack on Google's Chinese operations, where Chinese hackers successfully broke through Google’s security measures. The break in was made through a vulnerability in Internet Explorer, the browser that is built-in Windows operating system. New hires in Google are no longer given computers that run on Windows, they are either given Apple’s Mac or PCs that run on Linux operating system. One of Google's employees revealed that they are no longer "doing any Windows for security reasons".

Google Dumps Windows
Could the gradual ditching of the use of Windows at Google signal the demise of Windows operating system? I guess Google's move will greatly affect the image of Windows but it could not easily become the cause of the end of the operating system. Windows has since been able to weather through the storm that came because of the weaknesses of Vista; Windows 7 is now slowly but surely erasing the bad memories of the Vista days. I guess Google's ditching of Windows is not enough to kill the operating system.

Quit Facebook Day

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Some people who are disgusted with Facebook's intrusive new “privacy” practices have set May 31st as Quit Facebook Day. There is a site named QuitFacebookDay.com which aims to entice as many Facebook users as possible to quit the social network by May 31, 2010. The plan is to have a "mass exodus" on that said date. As of this writing there are 13394 committed Facebook quitters according to the site's count. How many percent is that of the 400 Million Facebook users worldwide?

Here is the explanation of the creators of QuitFacebookDay.com why they are quitting Fabebook:

For us it comes down to two things: fair choices and best intentions. In our view, Facebook doesn't do a good job in either department. Facebook gives you choices about how to manage your data, but they aren't fair choices, and while the onus is on the individual to manage these choices, Facebook makes it damn difficult for the average user to understand or manage this. We also don't think Facebook has much respect for you or your data, especially in the context of the future.

Quit Facebook Day

For a lot of people, quitting Facebook revolves around privacy. This is a legitimate concern, but we also think the privacy issue is just the symptom of a larger set of issues. The cumulative effects of what Facebook does now will not play out well in the future, and we care deeply about the future of the web as an open, safe and human place. We just can't see Facebook's current direction being aligned with any positive future for the web, so we're leaving.

Hmmmnnn... is it time to quit Facebook? Are you sick of Facebook's lack of respect for your personal information? Are you quitting Facebook? Are you going to commit to quitting Facebook on May 31, 2010? Don't mind answering the questions, I know what you'll say. In the meantime, let me end this post here because I need to log on to Facebook.

Pac-Man 30th Anniversary Free Download

Pac-Man is one of the best electronic games ever created; the idea behind the game is very simple but the game has endured the test of time, it is still here and still good enough to entertain us. Now Pac-Man is in its 30th year and it is still very good, the game is timeless. To commemorate the 30th year of Pac-Man, Google has turned its homepage loge into a Pac-Man playable game board that is playable; when you are on Google you can click on "Insert Coin" button (where the "I'm Feeling Lucky" used to be) and start playing Pac-Man right on Google's homepage.

Pac-Man 30th Anniversary Free Download
And there is even some buzz about a Pac-Man 30th Anniversary Free Download but I checked around and found nothing free at all, there is a "free download" of the game being offered from some sites but those are trial versions of the game, only playable for 60 minutes and you'd be prompted to buy it after the free 60 minutes playtime is consumed. The only really free way to play the game is through Google's homepage.

Google's New Look

Friday, May 7, 2010

If you are always using Google (who doesn't?) then you have probably noticed its new look and feel. I noticed Google's new look a few days ago. The most obvious change is the new contextually relevant left-hand panel on the SERP. This new panel enables the user to fine tune the search, allowing for a lot of ways to get to the most relevant search result. If you haven't notice it, there is a drop-down button at the bottom of the left-hand panel of the SERP, it is the "More search tools". If you click that button you will be presented with a lot of possibilities to fine tune your search and to reach at what you are targeting more accurately and quickly.

Another change in Google is the logo. I know that most Google users do not notice it immediately but the logo has changed. Yes, the logo has changed, it is now simpler but brighter. Here is the Google logo change, the before and after, see the difference?

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14

Friday, April 9, 2010

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 is Lenovo's newest consumer and small business-oriented ThinkPad. Compared to the SL and T-series ThinkPads, Edge 14 looks somewhat milder when it comes to design. It is obviously designed with more emphasis on what the consumer wants. The contrasting paint scheme of the Edge is very different from the SL-series (which is matte-black paint and rubbery). The shape of Edge is also very different from the SL-series. Silver plastic trimmings borders the edge of the screen cover and keyboard. And talking of the keyboard, the Edge has modified Chiclet-style keyboard.

Here is the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 specs:

Windows 7 Professional 32-bit

320GB Fujitsu 5400RPM hard drive

iPhone OS 4

Thursday, April 8, 2010

The developer preview of the iPhone OS 4 was officially launched last Thursday. This new version is dubbed as "the next generation of the most advanced mobile operating system in the world." There are 100 new user features that are added in this version, including including "tentpole" improvements like multitasking, background task completion, and background location. The OS will be available to most users by this summer according to Apple.

But even if iPhone OS 4 seems so cool, it needs to be able to muster enough beauty and features to be able to really top other strong competitors like Google's growing Android OS. Of all the features of iPhone OS 4 it seems that Steve Jobs very proud about iAd, a feature that will "keep free apps free."

iPhone OS 4

But there is bad news to iPhone 3G owners and owners of the older iPod touches, the hardware of your devices will not be able to allow you to enjoy the multitasking capability of the OS and some other features, you need to buy newer devices.

Every time there is a Manny Pacquiao match, SEOs from all over the world compete for the first page of the SERP for keyphrases related to the Pacquiao fight. Those who are not into blogging do not have any idea as to how Pacman can get many bloggers a few thousand dollars richer. The traffic that a blog carrying anything about the Pacquiao fight is a good source of money, those who know how to use that traffic can get rich overnight.

Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey Live Stream Online‎

Playstation Network Down

Sunday, February 28, 2010

Playstation Network Down

Playstation Network Down. As of this moment nobody knows exactly why the Playstation network is down. Only one this is sure, that it is down and it is causing a lot of problems for PS3 systems. 8001050F error codes, game crashes, corrupted trophy info, and even the complete inability to launch certain titles have been reported in the last few hours. There is no advice yet as to when everything is going back to normal for PS3 owners. Well, they can always go back to watching TV or the replay of the Canada vs USA hockey final game.

1,265,918 Page Views in 18 Months

Sunday, February 21, 2010

I seldom check the stats of my wife's two blogs but when I checked them today I was quite surprised to see that the total page views of my wife's first blog, Pinay Chicken Heart, has already reached 1,119,626. Pinay Chicken Heart is 21 months old, it's very first post, entitled "Why Chicken Heart," is dated May 2, 2008; the very first comment came from Gem, The Lady Programmer.

Pinay Chicken Heart

So I checked my wife's other blog, Wow Legs, to see how it has fared in the last 18 months of its existence. I was surprised to see that Wow Legs has 1,265,918 page views already. Wow Legs is 18 months old. Of course these numbers are too small compared to big sites' stats but for small bloggers like us this is something that can be proud of--getting past the millionth page view.

Wow Legs

I and my wife are proud to say that Pinay Chicken Heart and Wow Legs have earned more or less $14,000 already in the last 21 months. Of course these earnings did not start immediately, Pinay Chicken Heart started getting real earnings in April 2009, Wow Legs in September 2009. Not bad for Blogger blogs. We are looking forward to more fruitful years to come for the two blogs :)

iPad a Disappointment?

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

iPad a Disappointment?
Is iPad a Disappointment? The iPad was expected to roll out of stores with a price tag of more than $1,000 but many are surprised to see that it can only cost as low as $500. It's good news to many because it is half the price as expected and many people can afford it at that price range and of course millions of units will be sold if that is the case. But how about iPad's performance? Well it has a really big screen and a quick processor, but there seems to be something that disappointed a lot of people--iPad's inability to multitask. In this age of multitasking, gadgets should be capable of doing a billion things at the same time but it seems that the iPad lacks in this area. And to top it all, it seems that iPad does not support Flash! Oh, what a disappointment.

Apple Announcement - Apple iTablet

Apple Announcement - Apple iTablet

Every techy guy is waiting for the Apple announcement which is to come a few hours from now. The Apple iTablet is the center of interest because it is said to be the "savior of old media". As of now, what people have about the Apple iTablet are just speculations, but most of the ideas about the iTablet are glowing. But would Apple iTablet really deliver what is expected of it? That remains to be seen. They are saying that the iTablet will change the way we think and learn because of how it delivers content. But would the content providers be able to handle it and provide the kind of content that the iTablet needs to show it's use to the fullest? The LA Times has a story that touches this, here's part of it:

Although Apple has proved its deftness at creating trendy devices and a digital store in which publishers could sell their wares, Gartner Inc. analyst Allen Weiner said there will be plenty of trial and error before newspaper, magazine and book publishers figure out the “fine art” of creating digital editions that take advantage of the device’s graphics and video”… “Where’s the opportunity? It’s creating book experiences. It’s taking a cookbook and adding video and author updates. That’s an opportunity, because you can charge extra for that.”

HP Mini 5102 Netbook

Thursday, January 7, 2010

HP Mini 5102 Netbook

Who says that 2010 is the year when netbooks die and smartbooks, superphones, and tablet computers thrive? Netbooks are still in and some manufacturers are still rolling out netbooks. Hewlett-Packard has just unvieled the HP Mini 5102 Netbook, a business class netbook that comes packed with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor or a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N470 processor, depending on what you prefer. At $399 starting price, it comes with the following specs:

Facebook Colors - why is everyone posting colors on facebook

Facebook Colors - why is everyone posting colors on facebook. Have you noticed that in the past two or three days more and more females on Facebook have been posting nothing on their status but colors. "Black". "Yellow". "Red". "Skin tone". Just like that. It took men a few days to figure it out. It turns out that it is their bra color of the day. This is going viral.

Alienware M11X

Alienware M11X

Can you play games on your netbook? When I say games, it is not just those little flash games or games in Facebook because those are not really big games. What I mean are real computer games that you can play only on expensive desktops. Of course you will say that netbooks are meant for light use only, for surfing, emailing, and blogging while you're on the move. But Dell's Alienware division is changing that because they are rolling out (in the very very near future, which is just a couple or so months away) the Alienware M11X, a powerful netbook that can handle heavy games like powerful desktops do. To give you an idea of how "powerful" the Alienware M11X is, here are what make it tick:

It has an 11.6", 1355x768 display
It's packing a Core2Duo processor
It will feature switchable graphics, running on a low-performance integrated GPU when on the desktop to offer over 6 hours of battery life and switching to a 1GB GeForce 335M GPU when gaming for better performance (and "around 2 hours" of battery life)
It weighs about 4 lbs.
It runs Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at over 30fps at highest settings, and scores in the 6,000-7,000 range in 3DMark (Dell didn't disclose which version of 3DMark nor which settings were used).

You might be wondering how much it would cost. It could be around $1000 and up. Gamers are really excited about this new netbook.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Multimedia Laptop

Monday, January 4, 2010

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Multimedia Laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Multimedia Laptop boasts of a design that can easily get it five stars from most reviewers. What makes it really good to look at is how streamlined it appears although it really looks large at the same time, it's thin and large. It has a glossy 16-inch wide screen which is really large. Its touch pad is also large. The largeness of this laptop is does not affect its weight, it is surprisingly light and handy, it is only 5.6 lbs. The looks of this laptop gets 10 stars out of ten as far as I am concerned.

Now, let us look at the things that make it tick: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz processor, 4GB RAM, a 320GB HDD, a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce G105M GPU. Well this machine can really work too, it has good specs. Don't ask me about the price because I find it quite large :P
