Bing

Do you know the meaning of the term Bing? Just Google it and you'll surely find out what it is all about. Bing is actually a third generation MSN Search, Microsoft's attempt at dethroning Google. But would you be comfortable Binging for answers than Googling them? Only time will tell but I can hazard a guess that Bing won't stick; I could not even get the hang of the name even if it is that simple. The job of naming things that are meant to succeed is not that easy, I understand why Microsoft ends up with a little Bing.

Webhosting Tips

When I first started out in the world of blogging two years ago, I did not have any idea about the inner workings of self-hosted blogs. All I knew then was that I could use free hosting with my blogs; I thought that it was all I need to succeed in blogging. But as I learned many things about blogging, I realized how important it is to have one's blogs self-hosted. So I did some research about the best and the most affordable webhosting companies. The seach engine led me to WebHostingGeeks.com, a site that provides independent reviews of the best web hosting providers. They have a list of the top ten best web hosting providers in the world which are ranked according to best price-value ratio, host reliability, uptime, key features, bonus features, customer support, past and current user feedbacks, user-friendliness and hosting awards. From their list I was able to to pick the web hosting company that now house 8 of my blogs. I am very satisfied with the hosting and am planning to renew my package from that web hosting company. Without WebHostingGeeks.com, I wouldn't have selected a good hosting company for my blogs. If you are now looking for a web hosting company, I advice you to check out Web Hosting Geeks and consult their list, they will make your search for the best web hosting company easier.  Aside from their top ten list, they also have a blog where you can glean a lot of knowledge about self-hosting your blogs. If you would like to venture in an online business, you will find the tips in their e-commerce section useful. Check out Web Hosting Geeks now and get your piece of the world wide web.

New iPhone 2009 Release Date

Here's the latest news about the New iPhone 2009 Release Date:
The new iPhone which is due to be released in either June or July, is about to get a speed boost from AT&T as they have announced plans for its HSPA 7.2 Mbps mobile data service in 2009, which will support faster iPhone models expected to get a release date of summer 2009.

AppleInsider informs us that AT&T said that the upgrade to High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 technology would offer speed twice as fast as what the current iPhone 3G model offers. This new faster service will be phased in from now until 2011.

That is not all; AT&T will also begin trials of LTE (Long Term Evolution), with a hope of deploying the technology in 2011. It is thought that LTE will be able to reach speeds of up to 20 Mbps. Although AT&T is working on HSPA, it is clear that LTE is the future for the network, and should be widely available from 2011 or 2012.

As of now, not details about this toy's software but one thing is sure--it will sport an IE-based, customized browser. As to storage and CPU performance, not much is known as of this writing.

Earning Good with Adsense

Saturday, May 23, 2009

What I earn with Google Adsense now is not that big; when compared to what other bloggers are making each month, my earnings is just a trickle. Some sites earn in one day what I earn in a month, but I am quite happy with what I get each month from Adsense. For the month of May, I earned around $245. But May is not yet done, there are seven days left in this month. If things go as they are doing now, I'd be making around $300 for this month. My efforts are paying off now, I made an honest to goodness work with my Adsense, I read up a lot about Adsense optimization and search engine optimization in the last three months and I am now beginning to reap the fruits of my labor. Anyone who reads up the important things posted in the Adsense blog would surely be earning good money from their blogs.

Chrome 2

What? You're still using Chrome 1? Haven't you heard that Chrome 2.0 is now available?

What to expect in this new version of Google's browser? Here are the most noticeable improvements:
Improved New Tab Page: The most requested feature from users was the ability to remove thumbnails from the New Tab page. Now you can finally hide that embarrassing gossip blog from the Most Visited section.

Full Screen Mode: If you've ever given a presentation or watched a large video using Google Chrome, you might have wished you could use every last pixel on your screen for the content. Now you can hide the title bar and the rest of the browser window by hitting F11 or selecting the option in the Tools menu.

Form Autofill: Filling out your information in forms over and over again can be tedious. Form autofill helps by showing information you've previously entered into the same form fields automatically. If at any point you want to clear out your information, that's easy to do from the Tools menu.

And after using it for a little while, you'll notice the following:
Increased Stability: Google Chrome is more stable than ever--we have fixed over 300 bugs that caused crashes since launch.

Increased Speed: Making the web faster continues to be our main area of focus. Thanks to a new version of WebKit and an update to our JavaScript engine, V8, interactive web pages will run even faster. We've also made sure that JavaScript keeps running fast even when you have lots of tabs open. Try opening a bunch of web applications and then running your favorite benchmark. You can read more about V8 in our JavaScript scalability post on the Chromium blog.

Missing Link Found

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

I came across a report about the discovery of "the missing link". Yes, the missing link that Darwin's theory has been missing, it is found. Read the report here:

Today, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, a revolutionary discovery -- one that will stand as a milestone for paleontologists and evolutionists everywhere -- was announced. Scientists based at the University of Oslo have discovered “Ida,” also known as Darwinius masillae, a 47-million-year-old fossil that has been proclaimed the “missing link” in connecting human skeletal structure to early mammals.

Scientists found Ida in Messel Pit, Germany and soon found out that she is about twenty times older than most fossils related to human evolution. What makes Ida so special is that despite her classification as an early prosimian (lemurs), she has certain undeniable human characteristics such as forward facing eyes and even an opposable thumb.

This is an exciting and validating day for scientists everywhere. Broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said: “This little creature is going to show us our connection with all the rest of the mammals.”

Head on over to The Link for pictures, video and more information about Ida and the team of researchers behind her. Also don’t miss what’s up at the open source journal PLoS One to read about the scientists’ findings.

Hmmmnnn... what do you think?

Formaspace

When working to discover new things that would help make life easier, it is important to have the most functional and comfortable workbenches around. I came across Formaspace.com and saw their line laboratory furniture. I work for an educational institution and I could not help but wish our institution could have some of those chairs, cabinets, drafting tables, and workbenches from Formaspace. What's good with them is that you cn even help in the designing to come up with the perfect functional furniture that you would like to have in your office, laboratory, or work area. They have a tool that uses CGI renderings to provide design suggestions, this is really helpful in perfecting the furniture that comes into one's office or laboratory. This only happens when technology and art meet halfway.

Data Encryption

Technology has made our life easier; things get done easily. How we love technology. But technology has also made the life of thieves easier. Now, in the digital age, it is easier to steal important information. Computers rule, and they rule even when it comes to important data. Everything is now digitalized. Lose your laptop to the thieves and you lose your life's work.  It is important to have some security for your important files. When your laptop is stolen, you must not lose your sanity worrying about your confidential and important files in the hands of the crooks. So before your files are stolen, you must see to it that they are secure. Data Encryption is one security measure that you can get. When your data is encrypted, it is impossible for thieves to use it because all they will have would be a jumble of data that they can not read. There are sites that can help you with File Encryption, one of which is AlertSec.com, they have powerful Encryption Software that will take care of your important and confidential file's security. So if your organization, or your business needs to protect your information, it is good to get the best data encryption securty from a reliable company like Alertsec.com.

Google's New Search Options and Your SEO Efforts

If you are serious about search engine optimization, I am sure that you are closely following Google's every move because you know that every change in Google affects your SEO efforts. Now, Google has introduced some changes to its search results and it is called "Search Options." This new feature allows users to "slice" and "dice" search results in many ways that may affect your SEO efforts. When a user makes a search using Google, he has more options as to what to do with the results, which would surely affect how he chooses which result to click and which not to click. See the video below to understand it:

Now, how does this new feature affect your SEO efforts? Here are some ideas from SEO experts:

Lee Odden of Top Rank Online Marketing :
"Yes! But it doesn't change the SEO advice we give: fresh content, digital asset SEO..."
Bill Slawski of SEO By the Sea:
"Web Options have the potential to impact SEO by offering a much wider range of ways to find information. Whether or not they will may have to do with whether or not searchers will take the time to click on the 'show options' link, and explore the many new ways that they can find what they may be looking for."
WebProNews Blog Partner Bill Hartzer:
"From what I am seeing, the 'search engine optimization' industry is actually turning back around to what it used to be: good old fashioned website marketing. It's not only 'optimizing a website' and 'getting links.' SEO is involving more nowadays: you have to get your site in front of real people and real traffic," he continues. "It's also about using social media marketing techniques, as well. If you're successful in social media you'll be successful in search. If you can get lots of real people to a site then you'll be successful in SEO."

Google Squared

Last month I have posted about Wolfram Alpha, the new search engine that some people believe could become a "Google killer". Now Google has something to put up with Wolfram Alpha, Google Squared, which will appear on Google Labs next month. This new feature will automatically peruse the Internet for the user, searching for research topics and generating a detailed spreadsheet of results. Here's how Google's Matt Cutts explains Google Squared in his blog:

“[I]f you typed in ’small dogs’ then Google would try to return types of small dogs, along with facts like how much they weigh. It’s easy to add a row to the Square, so you could add a row for Lhasa Apso and Google will try to infer the relevant facts from the web. You can also add new columns, e.g. if you type ’energy level’ then Google will look for corroborating facts across the web and try to guess the energy level of each type of dog.”

File Extension Dbx

Do you know about file extension dbx? Well, most regular computer users do not really know about this file extension. Outlook Express actually uses the file extension dbx. If you are using Outlook Express (and I am quite sure that you are) your computer must have this file. File extension dbx is where Outlook Express stores all of your emails and email information. Don't you know that DBX files come in several number of types? These include Inbox.dbx as well as Folders.dbx. All of the messages that are in your current inbox are contained in the Inbox.dbx. Folders will have all of the mail messages and other files that you have stored in custom folders. Each of these files are very difficult to extract manually and generally must be opened using Outlook Express. If you suddenly experience difficulty in opening DBX file, then it is probably because your computer's registry corrupted and needs to be scanned for errors and fixed. Well, don't worry about it because FileExtensionDbx.net will help your fix this problem. From their site you can download DriverCure and have a good scan of your system for errors. For problems with opening files like file extension dbx, just remember to check out FileExtEnsionDbx.net, your computer woes will surely be taken cared of.

Twitter Spam Invades Trending Topics

It was only a matter of time: Twitter trending topics are now being exploited by spammers. Now that trending topics – the most talked about items on Twitter at a given point in time – are integrated as part of Twitter’s web experience , marketers are quickly realizing that these can be exploited to generate traffic. How? Simply include the trending term in your tweet. Then, anyone who clicks the trending topic will see your ad, for free. Today’s example comes in the form of “Apple Shampoo,” which is apparently a song from Blink 182, being shared aggressively today because of the meme #musicmonday, which is also trending. Here’s an example.

LeapFish

Sunday, May 10, 2009

I know that you have your own favorite search engine; I know that you probably have it as your browser's default home page. I have my favorite search engine too and chances are, we have the same favorite search engine. But even if I have a favorite search engine, it does not mean to say that I use it in all the searches that I make. It actually depends on what kind of search I do and what I would like to find out. I discovered lately that there are other search engines that are designed to do something more than just the basic search. An example of that is LeapFish.com, a universal search engine that captures the variety of the multi-media web in one search. This search engine debuted last year and now it's performing so well.  LeapFish aggregates different kinds of data from a growing list of major portals like Yahoo, YouTube, eBay, and others. What I like about this search engine is that it is able to present the variety of data it gets into a clean and easy to use interface.

Recently LeapFish announced the release of three new data widgets that could significantly expand the search platform to include real estate valuations and trends; local business listings and reviews; and domain name appraisals and Web page traffic statistics. These three widgets are very useful not only to webmasters but also to those who have online business. LeapFish is integrating into the new universal search engine more than 200 online authorities like CyberHomes, Yelp and Compete.com. You can read their recent press release at the LeapFish blog. Here is an example of a search displaying Yelp Reveiws : http://www.leapfish.com/?q=Social+Media+Tools+for+Newbie+Mothers and here's another one: http://www.leapfish.com/?q=thai+food+san+francisco%2C+ca

MiFi

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Have you heard about Novatel's MiFi personal hotspot gadget? Well, Verizon Wireless has become the first company to launch this personal hotspot gadget. PC Mag has this to say about this new gadget:
The MiFi is a Wi-Fi router with a twist: it's battery powered and has a cellular modem built in. So just turn it on anywhere Verizon has a signal, and pow, you're broadcasting Wi-Fi to up to five PCs. The battery lasts for about four hours of use and 40 hours of standby on a charge, according to Verizon Wireless. And the MiFi is pretty tiny: only 3.5" x 2.3" x .4" and 2.05 oz.

All five computers will share one EVDO Rev A connection, so you'll be splitting about a megabit down and 500 kilobits up between whomever's on the hotspot. And they'll all contribute to filling the monthly data quota. But still, this makes getting online with Verizon's network easier than ever.
MiFi will become available in th market come May 17.

Windows 7 RC Download

Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) is now live, Microsoft has launched it earlier than what was expected. "Downloading the Windows 7 RC could take a few hours," Microsoft noted on the download page. But it actually depends also in your connection.

Here are Microsoft's notes for the release candidate:

* You don't need to rush to get the RC. The RC will be available at least through July 2009 and we're not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.

* Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

* Protect your PC and data. Be sure to back up your data and please don't test the RC on your primary home or business PC.

* Tech details/updates: Before installing the RC, please read the Release Notes and Things to Know for important information about the release.

* Keep up with the news. You can keep up with general technical information and news by following the team blog. And, you can get non-technical news, tips, and offers by subscribing to the monthly Exploring Windows newsletter.

* Keep your PC updated: Be sure to turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case we publish updates for the RC.

* Installation: You can install the Windows 7 RC on a PC running Windows Vista without backing up the PC—but we encourage you to make a backup for safe keeping. If you're running Windows XP or the Windows 7 Beta, you'll need to backup your data, then do a clean installation of the RC, then reinstall your applications and restore your data. If you need to do a backup, please see How to back up your PC for more details and a suggestion for how to backup a PC running Windows 7 Beta or Windows Vista.

BlackBerry Curve

Monday, May 4, 2009

What makes people so curious about the new Blackberry Curve? Is it the optical trackball in place of the usual spinner? well the guys at Crackberry.com has posted a pre-release review and here's what they say about it:
the prevailing thought on what has been now named the BlackBerry 8520 is that would it would be a new "low end" EDGE-only addition to the popular Curve line. In other words, the Curve 8520 was not something to get too excited about.

...Despite the lack of 3G, all-in-all this is looking like a pretty nice extension to the Curve line.

Zombie Swine Flu

Friday, May 1, 2009

Someone has created a fake BBC News page that reports that the swine flu virus has mutated into something that turns the victims into zombies after they die. Here is the fake Zombie Swine Flu page. It looks authentic as long as you do not look at the address bar. The link was tweeted and people retweeted it because they want to pass on the joke to friends. But it was flagged in Tweetmeme as a genuine BBC News story and it went unchecked so many people thought it was real and retweeted it. As of this writing, more than 500 people have retweeted the link.
