The $15 Million Blog

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Would you believe that a PR5 blog with an Alexa ranking of 42,168 and averages less than 20 comments per post was bought from its owner for $15 million? Yes, a fairly regular blog named Bankaholic, which provides info on deposits, savings accounts, and money market accounts is being acquired by Bankrate, a financial information site. This is part of Bankrates expansion of its financial products listing. Bankrate will pay John Wu, the owner of the blog, $12.4 million up front and then pay him $2.5 million in the next 12 months. John Wu will be staying with his blog during the transition and will probably remain (or be hired by Bankrate) working for his blog as a Bankrate employee.

Grabe 15 million!

@Pchi $15 million is a lot of money. If someone buys this blog for $15 million, I am sure that $5 million would be my give away. $10 will be for my family.

I will buy three MacBook Pro laptops and give one to a blogger in Davao (that's you Pchi) another for a blogger in Baguio (that's Gem) and another for a blogger in Caloocan (that's Berry). I will also give a lot to charity but not through some organization, I will give it myself to those who direly need it but I'll wear a mask so that the people will not know it was me.

Of course the rest would be for all of my family. I'll give to my brother and two sisters and my parents and my wife's parents too.
I'll probably visit the places in the world I want to visit (of course with my wife and son). I'll also buy some cars and some houses. Hey, wake me up, I'm dreaming :P

@Gem The blog is like most PR5 blogs that really do not cost as much as $15 million but Bankrate saw in it something. It is not the domain or anything, Bankrate just saw the potential of the blog.

hindi naman ata kasi mukhang siya pa ata yung na hire ng Bankrate para magsulat for the blog at iba yung bayad doon.
