Is Blogging a Thing of the Past?

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Two days ago someone posted in a not so popular magazine's blog an article that starts with these words :

Thinking about launching your own blog? Here's some friendly advice: Don't. And if you've already got one, pull the plug.

And he continued his rant with this paragraph :

Writing a weblog today isn't the bright idea it was four years ago. The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been flooded by a tsunami of paid bilge. Cut-rate journalists and underground marketing campaigns now drown out the authentic voices of amateur wordsmiths. It's almost impossible to get noticed, except by hecklers. And why bother? The time it takes to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent expressing yourself on Flickr, Facebook, or Twitter.

And he went on and on with his argument. Honestly, some of his points have merit but when you look at the article as a whole it loses its power. One thing that you will notice is that the writer is just trying to bait some links. He knows that many bloggers would react and blog their reaction about his article and of course he will earn a lot of inbound links which would help Wired magazine's n/a pagerank. The very fact that he used a blog to publish an article about the futility of starting a blog now defeats his argument. If he really thinks that blogging is a thing of the past he should have used a different avenue to announce it to us. But the poor link baiter is using the best way to announce something, he used blogging.

Now he won't have any inbound link from me because I did not give him what he wants. If you are interested about reading his article just Google it. But I doubt if his article would come up high in your search because his article is in a magazine's blog with n/a pagerank.

it the article did get your notice and reaction, only that you didn't add the link (hehe)

well, given that everyone has freedom to express his opinions, let him

but we know better, and we know that blogging is good and in fact, we are learning a lot from it, well earning a little, and making friends out of it

let him speak out his mind as he wants

I don't buy it. If blogs were dying, there wouldn't be more and more blogs popping up all the time. Besides, a well-written and clean blog will always bring in visitors.

I think that person is a "more advanced" guy who thinks little about blogging.

I think blogging is fast becoming a mainstream media. It will be quite a while when people start to give up on blogging.

It is also possible that blogging may be here to stay.

There are good and bad things about blogging, it depends on how you see it. I guess, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. If he reckons that blogging is a thing of the past then let him. Not all will listen to him anyway. As for me, I'm enjoying blogging and I'm having a great time at the same time earning money and friends.
Happy weekend :]

I think gem is right. That guy knows the real meaning of "blogging".

I just hope that bloggers really do blogging because they love to blog. Earning online would be just a bonus.
